Academics
Salsbery School is proud to offer a "broad and generous curriculum" providing one of the best middle school programs with all the fundamentals required for students to excel academically.
Children are not empty vessels that need to be stuffed with facts and information but persons who naturally love to learn. For this reason Salsbery School is committed to reading great books, offering vital information and ideas while avoiding the mechanical.
What subjects will be taught?
The State of Texas requires that private schools offer math, reading, writing, grammar, spelling and civics. In addition during the 2014-2015 school year, the students at Salsbery School will study history (following Heart of Dakota plans), science, poetry, literature, and geography. They will also do research, dictation, and read/discuss original documents pertaining to the historical era. Each student will create his own history and science timelines, be introduced to creative writing, and enjoy an informative and fun fifty state study of the United States. The Bible will be read without doctrinal application, hymns, period art and classical music will also be a part of the weekly curriculum.
What textbooks will be used?
Visit this page for a list of the books needed for the 2014-2015 school year.
Because Salsbery School is founded on the teaching ideas of Charlotte Mason the sharing of knowledge will be done mainly through the use of living books instead of textbooks that typically offer snippets of information. In this way the students have a chance to understand the subject at hand at a deeper level with no need to mechanically cram and memorize facts for a test.
Parents purchase the necessary books and at the end of the school year take them home. Books may be purchased at Heart of Dakota, at the Salsbery School's affiliate store (which helps the school!) or wherever you find the best price.
Each student must have his/her own copy of each of the books needed during the school year.
Grading, testing and evaluation

- Math
- Grammar
